What is GRAIN ROT?

GRAIN ROT is a horror co-op extraction builder developed by Beck & Branch Games and published by Neem Interactive. It released for Windows PC on Steam on August 7, 2026. You play as a Living Spark housed inside a fragile wooden vessel, descend through a cursed elevator, and search procedurally shifting underground ruins while the Corrupted react to sound, movement, and one another.
The run is built around conversion and risk. Smash furniture for resources or feed it into the Grinder for gold. Push deeper while the Rot warps bodies and distorts voices, or return before the entire crew breaks and unsecured loot is lost. Everything successfully hauled back helps rebuild a persistent Outpost through interactive furniture, stat upgrades, rescued survivors, and new options for the next descent.

Signature mechanic
Death is a recovery problem, not always a reset.
When a vessel splinters, collapses, or catches fire, its Living Spark escapes. The exposed Spark stays with the expedition while the crew searches for another vessel to possess. A teammate can protect the recovery window, but a solo player must solve it without cover. If the entire crew is lost before extraction, everything not yet secured at the Outpost is lost; progress earned in earlier successful runs remains safe.
This mechanic connects combat, navigation, and inventory decisions. A crew that chases one enemy may abandon its exposed Spark. A player who pushes one room deeper may move too far from replacement options. The correct response is not always “fight harder.” It is preserve a stable body, create space, recover the Spark, and decide whether the remaining expedition can still return value.
Vessel breaks
The wooden body is destroyed, but the player may remain as a Living Spark.
Crew protects
Stable teammates preserve the route and help create a possession opportunity.
Spark possesses
A new vessel returns the player to active participation with a different body.
Everyone lost
The expedition fails and unsecured loot does not reach the Outpost.
